George Packard, retired schoolteacher, was irritated by the use of the word “evolution” in modern-day parlance. It was being: “over-used, mis-used, and …well, just overall used incorrectly”. Those were the words George Packard heard himself exclaiming to his friend Marshall over a cup of coffee.
“Whattaya gettin’ so excited about, George? That’s the way of the world. That’s how it is. They change the words all the time. Language develops and changes over time….”
“Well, yes,” George Packard responded, “that’s true evolution, too. Cultural evolution. I mean languages evolve like you say, they go extinct. Technology evolves, too. And the species is changed by it. It really is…….”
