Mistakenly, I thought that Willie Nelson wrote Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain. But no. Blue Eyes Cryin in the Rain was written back in the forties by Fred Rose; it was first recorded by Roy Acuff in 1947.  I discovered all this when I chanced upon Hank Williams’ 1951 recording of the song. Hank does the song just swell, of course, and many others have tried this country classicover the years. Because classic it is! To my mind, what’s left of it, Willie’s version is still the tops. Anyhoo, here’s Bumba doing it so to introduce you to the song, and/or to invite you to sing along with this magnificent lyric.

In the twilight glow I see her
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
When we kissed goodbye and parted
I knew we’d never meet again
Love is like a dyin’ ember
Only memories remain
Through the ages I’ll remember
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
Some day when we meet up yonder
We’ll stroll hand in hand again
In a land that knows no partin’
Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain
Now my hair has turned to silver
All my life I’ve loved in vain
I can see her star in heaven
Blue eyes crying in the rain
