Cheer Up Campers: Try Some Sing Alongs and Jokes

Time to cheer up, campers. I know, I know. We’re not done with the pandemic by any means. Or rather the pandemic is not done with us. Either way, here are some sing alongs to cheer your day. Plus some jokes which I hope are in the cheer-me-up category, although I must admit it’s mostly bottom-of-the-barrel material.

How ’bout two Ray Charles’ favorites? Hit the Road Jack and Georgia On My Mind?

You don’t hear Hit the Road Jack recorded very much outside of Ray Charles, and for good reason, which will be demonstrated if you click on the arrow. It’s a just great song the way Ray does it with the Raelettes. At the ballparks, of course, they play the song over the loudspeakers when the opposing team pitcher is sent to the showers. Hit the Road Jack was written by Percy Mayfield in 1960, and recorded by Ray in 1961. Anyhoo, I tried it the other day. and it’s a fine song to sing along with.

And likewise, here’s Georgia On My Mind for you to sing along with. You’ll thank me for barely singing on this one, which leaves you with a definite karaoke opportunity. Hoagie Carmichael wrote it of course. And Ray recorded the definitive version.

Here’s Hoagie

And here’s Ray

OK, now for the jokes:

#####################################

“Why does a dog turn around three times before he lays down?

“Because one good turn deserves another”.

##############################

A man brings his dog with him into a bar (a different dog, the other one is sleeping). He bets the bartender that his dog can talk.

“What’s on top of a house?” asks the man.

“Roooff!” says the dog.

The bartender is understandably dissatisfied with this answer.

“OK”, says the man to the dog, “Who was the greatest baseball player of all-time?”

“Roooff!!” responds the dog.

As they sit on the curb outside the bar, the dog asks: “Should I have said Joe DiMaggio?”

One more dog joke and we’ll be through.

A lady has a dog who lost his nose in an accident.

“How does he smell?”

“Terrible”
